Project scope

As part of my UX Design Diploma, I was assigned to design a travel application aimed at optimising trip planning for users. Through extensive user research and a detail-oriented design approach, I developed an intuitive and user-centric solution. This project showcases my ability to create engaging and functional digital experiences tailored to user needs.

Project closure

I successfully earned my UX certification and transitioned from graphic design to UX/UI design. The travel app project demonstrates how strategic UX design can enhance user interactions and improve the overall experience. By conducting in-depth user research and addressing key pain points, we developed an intuitive and seamless trip-planning solution. An iterative design process, incorporating user feedback and low-fidelity prototyping, ensured a functional, user-friendly final product.

Usability test

Learning how the end user uses a product

Conducting usability tests was by far the best way to learn what is expected from the app, and how the user mental models.

Affinity mapping

Gathering insights

After gathering recordings from the user interviews, I conducted an affinity mapping exercise to analyze the identified issues. These problems were sorted into common themes and features related to the platform.

Customer journey map

Identifying user friction

To grasp the customer experience and outline the ideal path for retaining users during the booking process, a customer journey map was developed. This map also assisted in determining the various screens and screen states required for the subsequent design phase.

UX Design process

Design is rarely a straightforward journey

Design is rarely a straightforward journey. I quickly discovered the value of revisiting and refining initial concepts to better align with the final objective. The process I followed can be summarized as:

Conclusion

The travel app project exemplifies how thoughtful UX design can transform user interactions and enhance the overall experience. By deeply understanding user needs and addressing pain points, we crafted an intuitive and seamless app that simplifies trip planning from start to finish. The iterative design process, supported by user feedback and low-fidelity prototypes, ensured that we created a solution that is both functional and user-friendly.

Creating the happy path

Using the insights into the pain points and user mental models, I developed an optimized user journey designed to guide users from start to finish with minimal friction.

Paper prototype

To the drawing board!

Using low-fidelity paper prototypes, I was able to easily test the flow and overall structure of the design during usability tests. This approach allowed for straightforward adjustments before moving on to the more expensive digital implementation.

Mid-Fidelity prototype

Turning the sketches into a clickable prototype

After some paper prototyping adjustments, wireframes, mid- and high-fidelity prototypes were created, which I made clickable to get a better feel of the flow.

High-Fidelity the user flow

It was finally time to create the vision that I had in mind for this app. Choosing UI elements that support the primary goal of the app was essential.
